We will begin the St. Michael Novena as a parish community on Sunday, September 20th praying together for nine days leading up to the Feast of the Archangels on September 29.

We offer this novena for all those affected by the many pressures, temptations, distractions, and harmful influences present in our world today, including those found in social media and in the digital culture.

Through St. Michael's powerful intercession, may we be protected from evil and strengthened against temptation, guided in wisdom and virtue, and given the grace to persevere in all that is good, holy, and pleasing to God.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, protect our families, and lead us ever closer to Christ. Amen.

Meditation for Day 1

On this first day we honor St. Michael with the choir of the Seraphim, the angels who burn nearest to God in the fire of perfect charity, and we ask that the same love be enkindled in our hearts. Scripture reveals that war broke out in heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon was thrown down (Rev 12:7-9) — for love of God is the very strength that overcomes the enemy. As we begin this novena, we place ourselves under the protection of the heavenly Prince who has never once been overcome by the foe of our souls. Ask St. Michael today to set your heart aflame with charity and to shield you from every snare of evil.

Meditation for Day 2

The Cherubim blaze with the knowledge of God, and through St. Michael's intercession with this celestial choir we ask for the grace to leave the ways of sin and run with perseverance the race set before us (Heb 12:1). St. Michael himself is described in the Book of Daniel as standing watch over God's people, a guardian who sees with supernatural clarity the dangers that threaten each soul. On this second day, ask him to illuminate your conscience and strengthen your resolve to pursue holiness without compromise.

Meditation for Day 3

The Thrones bear the weight of God's majesty and are the very seat of divine judgment; through their choir, St. Michael intercedes that a true spirit of humility may be infused into our hearts. It was pride that turned Lucifer into Satan, and it is humility — the virtue most opposed to that sin — that opens us to God's strength. Scripture shows St. Michael himself as an angel who does not presume on his own authority but says, May the Lord rebuke you (Jude 1:9), setting the perfect example of humble dependence on God. Beg St. Michael today to crush pride in your soul as he once crushed the pride of the rebel angels.

The Dominations govern the lower orders of angels, directing the heavenly host with divine authority; through their intercession, we ask St. Michael for the grace to govern our own senses and subdue every passion that leads us away from God. St. Peter warns us that our adversary the devil prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour, and that we must resist him, firm in faith (1 Pet 5:8-9). St. Michael stands as the great model of ordered power — might always in the service of God's will. Ask him today to help you bring every thought, desire, and appetite under the sovereignty of grace.

Meditation for Day 5

The Virtues are the angels through whom God works miracles and sustains the natural order against the chaos of evil; through their choir we pray, in the very words of Our Lord, deliver us from evil (Mt 6:13). St. Michael's name itself is a rebuke to all pride and disorder — a declaration that only God is supreme. In the history of the Church, great exorcists and spiritual masters have consistently called upon St. Michael when souls are threatened by the direct assault of evil. Pray today that he will preserve you from temptation and stand guard over your life, your home, and all those entrusted to your care.

Meditation for Day 6

The Powers are charged with restraining demonic forces from harming souls; through their choir, St. Michael intercedes that our souls may be protected against every snare and temptation the devil sets for us. St. Paul exhorts us to put on the whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the powers, the world rulers of this present darkness, the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph 6:11-12). The Church teaches that St. Michael is given special authority over these malevolent powers, making him the perfect intercessor for deliverance. On this sixth day, invoke him with confidence as your warrior and your shield.

Meditation for Day 7

The Principalities oversee kingdoms and nations, guiding human history toward God's providential ends; through their choir, St. Michael intercedes that we may receive a true spirit of obedience — to God's law, to the Church, and to legitimate authority. Scripture shows St. Michael as the guardian of Israel (Dan 12:1) and, by extension, of the new Israel, the Church — a role he fulfills precisely by perfect obedience to God's commands. Even in his dispute with the devil over the body of Moses, he did not presume but deferred to divine authority (Jude 1:9). Ask St. Michael today to form in your heart the same docile, trusting obedience.

Meditation for Day 8

The Archangels are God's messengers for his most important missions; through their choir and the intercession of St. Michael himself, we ask for the grace of final perseverance — to remain faithful to the end. The Prophet Daniel was told, At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people, and there shall be a time of trouble such as never has been, but at that time your people shall be delivered (Dan 12:1). This is the promise St. Michael carries for each soul that perseveres: ultimate deliverance and entry into eternal life. Beg him today for the grace never to abandon the faith, no matter the trial.

Meditation for Day 9

The Angels, the lowest and nearest choir to humanity, are our constant companions in the spiritual life; through their intercession, we ask St. Michael to guard us now and conduct us safely into God's presence at the hour of death. The Church's liturgy for the dead long invoked St. Michael as the bearer of souls into holy light — May Michael, the standard-bearer, lead them into holy light. Revelation celebrates the victory of heaven: Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come (Rev 12:10). As this novena ends on the eve of his feast, entrust your whole life — and your death — into the hands of this great Prince, and ask him to stand beside you in that final hour.
