Our parish will be supporting families at the Family Promise House in Delaware during the week of August 23, 2026, by providing evening meals, groceries, and household supplies.

Volunteers are invited to prepare and deliver a dinner for the families staying at the Promise House. Nightly meals are needed along with side dishes for the Tuesday pizza night for the 6 families that are staying at the house. Meals can be delivered each night between 5-5:45pm. If you would like to make a meal but need assistance in delivery, please reach out.  Meals may be packaged as individual portions or served family-style. If you plan to provide individual servings, containers can be supplied as needed. Please let Marcia know in advance.

Please list what you will be preparing in the comment section of the signup so that there are no duplicate dinner menus. The count of guests at the house can be between 25-30. I will send the final count once received from Rhonda, the house coordinator, on Friday. 

There are additional slots listed in the signup for items and groceries needed at the house. These can be dropped off at the church in the Family Promise bin in the Hall of Saints starting the weekend of our service week, or at my house or at the Promise house.

Family Promise of Delaware County is one of the ministries supported by the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John Neumann Parish. Family Promise is a national nonprofit organization that was created in 2009 and is dedicated to helping families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence through temporary shelter, meals, and comprehensive support services that promote stable housing, employment, and self-sufficiency.

Approximately four times each year, St. John Neumann volunteers serve families staying at the Family Promise House in Delaware by providing evening meals and overnight hospitality for one week. This ministry offers a meaningful opportunity to put our faith into action by supporting families during a challenging time in their lives. It is also an excellent service opportunity for families to participate together, as many of the guests include children of various ages.

Through acts of hospitality, compassion, and accompaniment, volunteers help create a welcoming environment and offer hope to families working toward a brighter future.

In addition to volunteer opportunities, monetary contributions are always welcome to purchase milk, fruit, snacks and lunch items for these families during our week of service. Prayers are also always needed.
